Forum trolls and the caves they live in...

Ah, the forum troll.  You really learn to hate and appreciate them all at the same time.  I mean, is it not a talent to completely disregard logic and reason only to create an inflammatory remark that you know will incite hatred and malice?  It is one of the ultimate forms of manipulation in my opinion.  Really, when a troll.....well, trolls, he knows the reaction he will receive.  He understands that many 'thumbs down' will probably be in his near future, but he doesn't care about any of that.  All he cares about is that he got into your head, and he usually succeeds.

So are trolls so gosh darned successful, you ask?  Well it's because of a couple of different factors
  1. The troll knows exactly what topics will incite the most emotional response out of his victims.  Why troll something that no one cares about?
  2. The troll knows that his own personal beliefs don't matter.  Making an inflammatory statement against the popular opinion will always invoke defensive reactions out of his victims.
  3. The troll does not tire of his work.  If you just say it once, it sounds like your own opinion.  If you shove it down people's throats repeatedly, it's much more difficult to ignore.
All in all.  Trolls are here.  We better get used to it.  As long as the internet remains a place of social gathering, trolls will roam the Earth.  When you think about it truthfully, don't we need trolls to keep us grounded?  We can't go around having to much self-esteem now can we?
